Why I Started CoKindred

When I was 22, a car crash changed my life. By God's grace, after years of recovery and rehabilitation, I was mostly okay. But the accident left its mark — physically and emotionally. The most visible reminder was an injury to my left eye, but the deeper impact was harder to explain. There were financial struggles, personal struggles, and periods of depression. Perhaps because of these struggles, I found myself sabotaging my romantic relationships.

I was born in New York City to Bangladeshi immigrant parents, and like many parents, mine wanted to see me married and settled. After my romantic relationships fell apart, they often encouraged me to consider arranged marriage, but I resisted the idea, as the concept didn't sit well with me.

Then, in my early 30s, I went through another difficult period — a health scare that made me think seriously about life, family, and what I would leave behind. A certain thought kept intruding on me - if something happened to me, I would leave no child behind, no next generation, and my parents would never have the grandchildren they had hoped for so deeply.

That thought triggered something in me.

I really wanted to have a child, but how could I do this? I didn't want to pursue an arranged marriage just to have a child, since as I mentioned, it didn't sit right with my Americanized sensibility. However, I began thinking about a different possibility. What if, in my parents' home country, there was someone — a woman in a similar situation as me — who didn't want to force a relationship, but still wanted to become a parent before it was too late? What if there was a woman who wanted motherhood and needed a partner to build a family?

What if two people like that could find each other?

Well, they did find each other. And after that my life changed in a way I could never have fully understood until I experienced it. I gained a sense of purpose, responsibility, and meaning that had been missing. It also quieted the part of my mind that was worried I would leave nothing good behind after I'm gone. I was relieved. I was happy. I wanted to give the world to my son.

So this was my story, but at some point, I realized it might also be a path for others. I noticed it wasn't just me disappointed by relationships. There were many, especially older Americans, struggling after failed relationships and found themselves questioning if they'd ever become parents. I found that many people desperately wanted to become parents but that dream felt unrealistic.

I started CoKindred to help others make that dream a reality. My life led me to carve out an unconventional path that I can now help others carve out for themselves.
